Kabilan Karunanidhi

Kabilan Karunanidhi (born 1994) is an Indian political campaign researcher and strategist from Poompuhar in Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu. He has been associated with political campaign field research and election strategy projects in Tamil Nadu.

Early life and education

Kabilan Karunanidhi was born in 1994 in Poompuhar, Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu. His father, Karunanidhi, is a retired engineer from the Government of India. He completed his primary education at the Government Panchayat Union Primary School in Manigramam. He later attended Srinivasa Higher Secondary School in Melaiyur, near Poompuhar, where he completed his higher secondary education. Kabilan obtained a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Annamalai University in Chidambaram. He later completed a Master’s degree in Human Resource Development from Bharathidasan University in Tiruchirappalli. He was also associated with the Manithaneyam IAS Academy in Chennai as a trainee and contributed to teaching subjects such as political science and Indian history during that period.

Career

Kabilan Karunanidhi began his professional career in 2019 as a field investigator with the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), a political consulting organization involved in electoral campaign management and research in India. During the 2020–2021 Tamil Nadu political campaign period, he was involved in field operations related to campaign activities supporting the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). As part of campaign operations connected to the outreach program Vidiyalai Nokki Stalin Kural, he worked with field teams involved in campaign coordination and research across several districts in Tamil Nadu. He later served as a district field associate in Mayiladuthurai district, where he participated in field research and campaign coordination related to the Poompuhar, Sirkazhi, and Mayiladuthurai Assembly constituencies. In 2021, he became associated with the political advisory organization PRO (later known as PEN), which works on political communication and campaign support activities. In this role, he was involved in field research and political analysis across districts including Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Cuddalore. His work included gathering field-level political data and analyzing electoral trends. He also participated in campaign-related activities during the 2022 Tamil Nadu urban local body elections, contributing to field research and campaign planning in several municipalities, municipal corporations, and town panchayats. During the 2024 Indian general election, he was involved in campaign field operations in the Salem Lok Sabha constituency, working with teams supporting candidate T. M. Selva Ganapathy. His work included coordinating field-level campaign activities and assisting with campaign logistics during the election period.

Personal life

Kabilan Karunanidhi comes from a family influenced by Dravidian political thought. He has expressed admiration for former President of India A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and has cited Kalam’s ideas on national development as an inspiration. He has also expressed interest in initiatives related to election studies and governance research.
